This project is a contemporary reinterpretation of the traditional gaiwan used in Chinese wedding.Designed for both ritual and everyday use, its asymmetrical form and extended rim improve handling and heat protection, bridging tradition and modern living.
Background
Serving tea to parents is a fundamental ritual in a Chinese wedding. However, the traditional tea cup is often used only for the ceremony and rarely becomes part of everyday life afterward.
Final Design
The Inherit Cup is designed to minimize the risk of accidents through a series of thoughtful features. An
extended lower rim and side ribs help insulate against heat, while the enlarged grip area improves handling when passing the cup. Also, the lid helps retain warmth during use.
