insight
Vermicomposting suits urban apartment living because it is odor-free and requires less space. However, there is significant potential to redesign the often boring appearance of existing worm bins.

Final Design
The final design utilizes a kitchen cart to bring vermicomposting into everyday food preparation. The butcher block surface provides a wide workspace, while a direct opening connects to the compost bin below, simplifying food waste disposal. The vermicomposting process takes place within the enclosed bin, and finished compost is collected from the bottom. Rounded forms and vivid colors give the system a friendly presence, encouraging daily use and family engagement.
